Founded in 1994, the Alex Film Society (AFS) is an all-volunteer resident company at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale, California. The Alex Film Society is a charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We collect personal data for three primary purposes:

• Technical data to enable our website to function properly, to compile statistics regarding traffic, etc. This may include IP addresses, device type, sites that you visit prior to or upon leaving our site.
• Personal information (name and e-mail address) provided by users requesting to be added to our e-mail distribution list or submitting our volunteer solicitation form;
• Personal information related to visitors purchasing a new membership to the Alex Film Society, making a donation, and AFS members who wish to renew their memberships by use of the form on the Join US! page.

Comments

We do not currently offer visitors the ability to leave comments on this Web site.

Media

We do not currently offer visitors the ability to upload media files to this Web site.

Contact forms

The form used to join our e-mail distribution list list captures the name and e-mail address of the submitter. An Unsubscribe function is also offered, enabling the visitor to remove their e-mail address from our distribution list.

The Membership form on the Join Us! page accepts a name and e-mail address. When PayPal is selected as the payment processor, the visitor is subject to PayPal’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy by authorizing the payment. Additional personal information, such as mailing address, telephone number, etc. are made available to AFS as a result of the PayPal transaction.

There is also a physical mail option available on the Membership form. To submit a hard-copy membership application or renewal, the visitor will also be required to submit name, physical address, e-mail address,phone number and check in order to create a membership profile for the Alex Film Society and pay for the annual membership.

Cookies

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. AFS uses cookies to help AFS identify and track visitors, their usage of the AFS website, and their website access preferences. AFS visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using the AFS website, with the drawback that certain features of the AFS website may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

AFS may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its website. How long we retain your data

An e-mail address typically remains on our distribution list until we’re asked to remove it, or we receive consecutive delivery failure notices from our ISP. You may request to have your e-mail address removed at any time by submitting a request via the Unsubscribe form, or by e-mailing a request to: remove@alexfilmsociety.org.

A member profile on the Alex Film Society membership roster is retained for at least as long as the membership is maintained by payment of dues, and typically a list of prior members is also kept. A member may request to have their profile deleted by contacting president@alexfilmsociety.org, or by the other contact methods documented at the top of this page.

What rights you have over your data

If you have subscribed to our e-mail distribution list, or are a member of or donor to the Alex Film Society, you are entitled to a copy of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

AFS will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to its officers, directors and administrative volunteers, AFS discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request.

AFS takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information.
