The Alex Film Society, Retroformat Silent Films and the Vidiots Eagle Theater will observe Silent Movie Day with a screening of the 2010 restoration of what is now referred to as The Complete Metropolis, giving audiences the opportunity to experience virtually the same version of the film that existed upon its release in 1927. Noted for its spectacular sets and futuristic effects that put it decades ahead of its time, the film is fundamentally the story of a dystopian future where the captains of industry unleash the forces of automation and mechanization to subjugate the working class - themes which are still primary concerns nearly 100 years later.
